Reigning champion Chautauqua is interestingly yet to herald much interest in 2016 Manikato Stakes betting markets with Ladbrokes.com.au, but the multiple Group 1 winner remains a clear $2.35 race favourite.

Chautauqua returned to racing this year for a blistering win in the Group 1 Black Caviar Lightning Stakes (1000m) at Moonee Valley, but running on late for third in the Group 1 Newmarket Handicap (1200m) on March 12th.

Returning to winning form with a successful defence of his crown in the Group 1 TJ Smith Stakes (1200m) on Day 1 of The Championships, the Encosta De Lago gelding travelled abroad for another slick win in the Group 1 Chairman’s Sprint Prize (1200m) on May 1st.

Unable to make up the distance when fourth in the Group 1 Moir Stakes (1000m) first-up on September 30th, Chautauqua will relish a return to 1200m, the Valley course and will be partnered by Dwayne Dunn.

Capitalist is yet to return to the blistering form he displayed through his two-year-old season, but the classy colt is treated particularly well in the weights at only 53kgs and is the sole occupant of the second line of Manikato Stakes betting at a $5.50 quote.

A standout for Peter and Paul Snowden from his competitive debut, Capitalist won the Listed Breeders’ Plate (1000m) with complete ease in October last year before subsequently taking out each of the Wyong Magic Millions 2.y.o Classic (1100m) and Gold Coast Magic Millions 2.y.o Guineas (1200m).

Clearly requiring a run when resuming in autumn for second in the Group 2 Todman Stakes (1200m), the Written Tycoon colt delivered a classy field a strong defeat in the Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m) on March 19th.

Having placed fourth in the Group 3 San Domenico Stakes (1100m) and third in the Group 2 Roman Consul Stakes (1200m), Capitalist is drawn well in barrier 3 with Kerrin McEvoy in the saddle.

Interestingly figuring as the only other runner currently available at 2016 Manikato Stakes odds of less-than $10, English ($8.50) has steadily built to the task this time and is primed for a big performance.

Running third in the TJ Smith Stakes before posting a maiden win at the highest level in the Group 1 All Aged Stakes (1400m) on April 16th, the daughter of Encosta De Lago has run fifth in the Group 2 The Shorts (1100m) and fourth in the Group 2 Premiere Stakes (1200m) this time.
