Chautauqua remains a clear $2.50 favourite in 2016 Manikato Stakes betting markets with Ladbrokes.com.au, ahead of Capitalist ($7) clear market mover Fell Swoop ($9) and English ($9.50).

Will Chautauqua justify favouritism and win the 2016 Manikato Stakes or will one of his rivals post an upset at Moonee Valley?

Chautauqua ($2.50)

Multiple Group 1 winner and reigning champion Chautauqua failed to fire first-up, but he will relish a return to 1200m and the conditions of the Manikato Stakes. Resuming this year for success in the Group 1 Black Caviar Lightning Stakes (1000m), the Encosta De Lago gelding ran third in the Group 1 Newmarket Handicap (1200m) before returning to winning form in the Group 1 TJ Smith Stakes (1200m) on Day 1 of The Championships. Having won the Group 1 Chairman’s Sprint Prize (1200m) in a trip to Hong Kong in May, Chautauqua is drawn on the rails this evening with regular hoop Dwayne Dunn in the saddle.

Holler ($11)

Holler is drawn to receive an ideal run in transit in the Manikato Stakes and has the notable advantage of James McDonald in the saddle. Resuming in career-best form this year, the Commands entire stormed home to win the Group 2 Australia Stakes (1200m) by a length first-up before a luckless fifth in the Group 2 Autumn Stakes (1400m) on February 13th. Breaking through for a maiden win at the highest level in the Group 1 Canterbury Stakes (1300m), Holler placed second in the Group 1 William Reid Stakes (1200m) before a trip abroad heralded seventh in the Group 1 Diamond Jubilee Stakes (1207m) at Royal Ascot.

Fell Swoop ($9)

Fell Swoop is the only non-Group 1 winner confirmed in the 2016 Manikato Stakes field, but the horse is unlucky not to have posted a win at the highest level and has conditions to suit this evening. Rated an outsider to win the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate (1100m) first-up this year, the Not A Single Doubt gelding progressed to fourth in the Group 1 The Galaxy (1100m) before placing second in the TJ Smith Stakes. Travelling to Brisbane to win the Group 2 Victory Stakes (1200m) but failing to fire in his next two starts, Fell Swoop is sure to have taken plenty of benefit from a first-up run for third in the Group 2 Schillaci Stakes (1100m) and will be partnered by Hugh Bowman this evening, from the ideal barrier 3.
